THE PILOT'S WIFE

THE PILOT'S WIFE

by Anita Shreve

Perhaps not a completely typical beach read due to its darker subject matter, I nevertheless found myself unable to put The Pilot’s Wife down for the three days it took me to binge read it. The story begins with a knock at the door in the middle of the night, which is never good news for anyone, but especially not for the wife of an airline pilot. As Kathryn lives through the hours, then days and weeks after the crash that killed her husband, she does her best to keep it together for her teenage daughter. Slowly evidence and rumors start to accumulate that leave Kathryn questioning if things are not as straightforward as she first thought. Kathryn’s journey through grief to discover the truth about her husband kept me glued to my book much later than I intended, night after night. Shreve is a master storyteller who conjures characters as brilliantly as she spins her plot. (Lily)
