THE WINE LOVER'S DAUGHTER
by Anne Fadiman
Whenever it is my turn to review a book I didn’t like, I am reminded of why we named this section “not my cup of tea.” It’s not that these books are bad, and in fact may be exactly right for someone else. But for me, The Wine Lover’s Daughter was not enjoyable and I would not recommend it.
The primary issue I have with The Wine Lover's Daughter is that it's mainly a biography of the author’s father, Clifton Fadiman, a man I had never heard of before picking up this book. And although he lived a very interesting life, Anne Fadiman does not tell the story in a way that held my interest. My husband Dan and I love drinking, collecting, tasting and talking about wine, but this book actually didn’t have much wine content other than name-dropping incredible bottles she and her father had tasted over the years.
So bottom line, if Clifton Fadiman is someone you want to know more about, this is the book for you. But for me, The Wine Lover's Daughter was definitely not my cup of tea. (Lily)
