THIS STORY MIGHT SAVE YOUR LIFE

If you are looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful, witty book for your first beach read of the summer, look no further. This Story Might Save Your Life engaged, delighted and surprised me while also making me laugh out loud. Crum provides many plot twists but I  always felt certain she was headed for a satisfying ending when all was revealed. Crum keeps the story moving quickly by switching between several characters’ first-person narrations and a memoir that fills in the backstory. Her switching back and forth kept me eager for just a little bit more of the story. 

Benny and Joy are best friends who have become famous doing a podcast where they challenge each other to imagine how they would escape outlandish, dangerous situations. When danger finds them in real life, their skills and friendship are put to the test. One morning, Benny discovers that Joy and her husband Xander are missing, and as the hours pass and he is unable to reach them, he begins to suspect something more sinister than a surprise vacation. 

Crum reveals each piece of this heart-stopping puzzle with precision and glee so the reader is constantly revising their guess as to what happened and who the bad guys might be. I admire how she threads in some serious, dangerous subjects while keeping the story moving and providing laughs along the way. Definitely pick up a copy of This Story Might Save Your Life this summer and treat yourself to a thriller that will leave you feeling happy in the end. (Lily)
